Yet another way to stay in touch - mobile messaging. Floopla has just added this convenient new feature to business profiles.

You may now allow your FLOOPLA visitors to mobile message you right from your FLOOPLA account. Login to your account to update your profile; enable this feature, select from the list of service providers, ie. Rogers, Telus etc, and add your cell number. (Your cell number is not available to view, unless you add it to your contact information.) Now your visitors will see the Mobile Message icon and with a simple click they will access a form to send you their name, cell number, email and a short message.

SPA DAY - GREAT DAY!

There are times when the generosity and compassion of complete strangers will take my breath away. Today I was breathless. I was invited, thanks to the very kind nomination of Carole Lacasse, to the 3rd annual Saab Salon - Spa Breast Cancer Survivor Day, at 376 Bank Street.

This incredible event is co-ordinated in conjunction with the 100 Man Run (4th annual), a fund raising initiative co-founded by Amanda O’Reilly (Balance in Style - Owner) and Ken Avraire (Television Sportscaster), which supports the CIBC Run for the Cure (October 4, 2009).

Picture this, I walk into the stunning Saab Spa and see a sea of pink; pink tops, pink scarves, pink decorations, pink hair pieces. Add to that trays of delicious fruits, cheeses, scones, biscotti and of course cake. I am greeted, welcomed and lead to one of the few unfilled chairs to meet Cindy, a lovely young lady who offers to provide me with whatever salon service I would like. I see women having their hair cut, coloured, styled, straightened – all survivors being acknowledged and pampered.

In addition to the many strong ‘survivors’, I see celebrities, including Saab Salon - Spa owners Frank and Nina Saab, Ken Avraire and Angie Poirier, who is reporting live for A Channel. Also mixing with the crowd is Police Chief Vernon White and Mayor Larry O’Brien. Beside me I see Dwight Grant (Mellow Dee Music - MySpace) who is playing and singing the full gamut of song genres, including his own freestyle, personalized ballad.

After highlights, hair cut and style, I was treated to an incredibly relaxing back massage by Jordan, Saab’s Registered Massage Therapist.

Through my cancer journey I have many days I remember. Today, all these people gave us ‘survivors’ another day to remember – a great day. To say thank you seems terribly insufficient, but in absence of a greater expression of appreciation, please accept this THANK YOU – for MY great day.

Fall is here!

Despite the fact that we never really had a proper summer; one of hot weather, yellowed lawns and excessive air conditioner use, autumn has arrived. The temperature has dropped, especially at night, leaving garden plants wilted and looking as if soon they must be pulled. The rain now has a cooler feel and is accompanied by a chilly wind that is forcing the too-soon richly coloured leaves to fly from the trees.

So apparently, while we have virtually skipped summer, the seasons continue along their regular path. We can only hope for an 'Indian Summer' before the arrival of our, unfortunately never skipped, winter season.

So, with all this gloomy weather discussion, let me throw a little sunshine your way. The first person to contact me via e-mail, mentioning this post, will receive a free vDoc or a production credit of equal value ($195). Ok...go! (Bet you're glad you read this.)

You'll notice their new online presence has grown as Ottawa's own STSD Inc. has grown and developed into an industry leader in specialized security, safety, crime prevention and consulting services to clients in every business sector across Canada.

EchoUs Media's Jason Hurdis has developed a new interactive calendar of Training and Events, identifying upcoming seminars including CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) and the new Bill 168 - Preventing Workplace Violence Seminar. We've done it again! Take a look at our new site.

Our brilliant Jason has created a visually dynamic, interactive and totally amazing site. We wanted our new look to be very open, clean, and of course unique. You will notice the new header technology which allows you to move various elements, including the image in the polaroid frame. You will also notice the menu animation when you move your mouse over the various icons. Even our menu jumps for joy when you visit.

Of course our clients may still access their control panels and web mail via the new login at the top of each page. The EchoUs News section will keep you up to date on our latest technologies, clients and activities. We've added RSS and complete social bookmarking to make it easy for all visitors to stay up to date.

I'll be popping up on the header soon as a Virtual Rep - again - so I'll guess I'll be seeing you soon...

This is a very personal passion for us as I have, for the past year, been through the my own breast cancer journey. I have seen first hand the importance of generating awareness and raising funds to find the cure.

Organizers Carl and Shelly Courneya have been raising funds for breast cancer research for a number of years. For this event, funds raised will be used to:

- Help fund a major expansion project at the Queensway Carleton Hospital that will see a decrease in wait times for patients requiring breast cancer treatments.

- Increased support for the Centre for Cancer Therapeutics where Dr. Ian A.J. Lorimer, Ph.D., has initiated studies comparing mutations in breast cancer tumours.

- The establishment of the new molecular laboratory at the Ottawa Health Research Institute, where research on "personalized cancer treatment" is now underway.

Here are a few PC shortcuts to help you save time! There are many more, but I'm showcasing some of the more useful ones.

Windows key + E = Explorer

Windows key + D = Show the desktop

ALT + Tab = Switch between windows

ALT, Space, X = Maximize window

CTRL + Shift + Esc = Task Manager

Windows key + Break = System properties

Windows key + F = Search

Windows key + D = Hide/Display all windows

CTRL + A = select all

CTRL + C = copy

CTRL + X = cut

CTRL + V = paste

CTRL + Z = undo

ALT + F4 = Quit active application or close current window

CTRL + F4 = Close active document or group windows (does not work with some applications)

Windows key + M = Minimize all open windows

Shift + Windows key + M = Undo minimize all open windows

Windows key + Break = Open the System Properties dialog box

F1 = Open Help for active application

F2 = Rename selected item

F3 = Search / Find

SHIFT + DELETE = Delete items permanently without placing in the Recycle Bin

In your Browser's address bar, type in any name, i.e "google", then press CTRL + Enter. This adds the "www." and ".com" to word and submits.

Try out some of these shortcuts yourself to save time and impress others!

Web Radio Streams

Our new Web Radio Stream Player has launched and we're excited about it. Our original Web Streams required having Winamp installed...not anymore. Our new player is Flash based so no more worries. You can tune in two ways, through our new Web site (or on this page - top right hand corner), as a pop-up player or alternately, and even better, a downloadable player which you can install to your PC and launch from your desktop for easy access 24/7. We manage the radio streams on our end, so if we add a station or a station is down, we'll take care of it for you.

Any requests for addition stations, let us know and we'll do our best to add it to the list.
